Brisbane is Australia's 3rd most populous city and a cosmopolitan hub situated along the Brisbane River. Clustered in its South Bank cultural precinct are the Queensland Museum and Sciencentre, with noted interactive exhibitions. With riverside expressways and an extensive public transport system, getting around Brisbane is straightforward and efficient.

Getting to Brisbane

AIR

Brisbane is easily accessible by air from around Australia, overseas and from many locations within the State. The airport is located north-east of the city centre on Moreton Bay and provides domestic and international passenger services. Brisbane's domestic and international terminals are located only 15 minutes from the Brisbane

ROAD

Driving in Brisbane is straightforward and safe, but you may want to check whether your hotel charges a daily parking fee. Brisbane City Council operates two centrally located car parks, at King George Square and Wickham Terrace.

AROUND BRISBANE

When travelling with Queensland's public transport provider translink, you can use:

  • buses across the entire network

  • trains in South East Queensland

  • ferries in Brisbane and some ferries in Moreton Bay and Townsville

  • trams—known as the G:link—on the Gold Coast.

Use the Translink journey planner, timetables, and MyTranslink app to help you reach your destination, using all services or just one.

You can travel on most services in South East Queensland using your
go card. If you don't have a go card, paper tickets are valid for travel on most buses, and all train, ferry and tram services.

Travel Visas

Unless you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, a valid visa is required for entry, with the visa issued in the visitor’s own country and entered in the passport pre-travel date. Once arrived in Australia, a visa is not needed to enter Brisbane from another state.
